SCOTT BROOKMAN Scott Brookman est un petit maître de la power pop qui a pris son envol dans les prémices du mouvement Home Taping et Orchestral pop en même temps que Kevin Coral de The Witch Hazel sound ou encore Cardinal.
C’était au milieu des années quatre-vingt dix et à l’époque.. hum… je bourre ma pipe tel Oncle Paul… À l’époque, disais-je, je croyais naïvement que cette nouvelle vague d’artistes qui vénéraient les grands de la pop plutôt que les étincelles du grunge allaient être accueillis les bras ouverts.
Aujourd’hui, j’espère qu’il reste sur cette planète des gens qui aiment les belles mélodies, les précieux arrangements et le style (encore lui) parce qu’il y’en a plus dans le nouvel album de Sir Brookman que dans l’intégrale des sur quotés Arctic Monkeys. A song for me, a song for you est un magnifique cocktail ambré qui coule dans la gorge et ravive le palpitant. Comme d’habitude c’est au Japon que Scott brille le plus, nous en France, soit on danse la tectonick soit on fait là où les prescripteurs d’opinions nous disent de faire.
Scott Brookman aura-t-il un jour la reconnaissance qu’il mérite, c’est tout le mal que je lui souhaite. Si déjà il avait votre soutien et un achat sur Itunes ce serait rendre grâce à un orfèvre pop hors des sentiers balisés. Hop, hop, hop on va au moins écouter Scott, vue la situation des artistes de son calibre aujourd’hui dans notre beau cauchemar climatisé… Yipee yeee !

Parce que les gens sont trop occupés à écouter la vénérable pépite et à s’informer qu’à communiquer. Ce n’est pas une tare jean-Em, d’avoir poussé tes lecteurs dans un retranchement kafkaïen et d’en avoir fait virvolter les préjugés d’un lectorat parfois ingrat, parfois patois

I don’t read French very well, but it’s great to see a fellow who grew up in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia getting good reviews overseas. I would like to add that in Roanoke, we have a huge neon star on top of a mountain. It is the main tourist attraction of the region. This has undoubtedly inspired Scott Brookman’s sense of humor in some way. If anyone reading this travels to Roanoke, you must see our neon star.

When I was a kid, Toxic Scott would come over to my house to play music with my older brother. I keep finding his lyrics in my family’s piano bench. Then and now, his music is fantastic, and while he isn’t necessarily writing music for kids, my own kids (ages 4 and 2) dig that Brookman groove, as the adults in the family do. And do come to Roanoke to see the neon star, and while you’re at it, be inspired by Hale’s restaurant in beautiful Montgomery County, Virginia, near where Brookman’s own grandmammy and grandpappy used to live!

I hear that the Arctic Monkeys are all disappearing because of “global warming”, so it’s a good thing we have natural resources such as Scott Brookman to keep our fragile ecosystem alive. Scott’s songs have the smallest carbon footprint in comparison to other artists, especially since they only exist as files that have no mass or other pesky physical properties.

Every now and then, I find myself humming Scott’s music. Sometimes I’m in the shower, sometimes I’m chopping celery, sometimes I’m thinking about god, and my wife says, “What is that clever tune you’re humming, man of mine?” and I reply, “Well, that’s Scott Brookman’s ‘A Song For Me, A Song For You,’ can you please move aside so I can wash the soap from my eyes and rinse the celery,” and she says, “Can we go listen to ‘(Don’t You Want To Know) The Way It Feels To Lose?’” and I ask, “What are you getting at? I’m blind!” and then I hum ‘Lemon Lane’ while wondering how she can speak in parentheses but I let it go, because all is well again when I hum his songs. I shit you not.
